A Note from the Founder
I started COLO Studios Inc. because it’s time to tell true stories of the African people, from the African people. KOFA was the first feature film I ever produced, inspired by the events following the kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls in Northern Nigeria by Boko Haram terrorists in 2014. The incident brought about months of global uproar and the #BringBackOurGirls social media campaign. By the time KOFA became a multi award-winning film, it already had an audience due to the socio-political, religious and cultural impact of the real-life incident.
Despite a success based on tragedy, I came to realize the power of storytelling to inspire progress and empathy towards a better society. We are currently experiencing an African renaissance and yet the people of Africa are not benefiting from it economically. How can this be? I wish to close this gap by bringing high-value productions to the world that allow Africa to tell her own story. You will find that it is both her light and darkness that are to be honoured, and that ultimately unifies us all. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
Best,
Chibie Louis-Okoye
